Most important is the macro

then far animals then people

With a budget of $800, you don’t have many options. But here’s what I would suggest:

For macro: the Tamron 90mm macro lens is a fantastic performer and it would double as a portrait lens for people. Expect brand-new to spend about $450 at a place like beachcamera.com or buydig.com or amazon.com

For far animals, you can try the Canon 75-300mm f/4-5.6 Macro Zoom Lens, which is about $200. Not the best lens but well within your budget.

And finally, for low-light indoor shooting, your budget doesn’t leave much left, so you’ll have to go for a second tier lens. Hence, I will recommend the Sigma 28-70 f/2.8 lens. Normally I would recommend a much more expensive Canon, but you don’t have the money for it. It’s about $290 at Amazon.com.

My suggestion: If you have to keep it under budget, try the 75-300mm in the store and see if that has enough macro for you. If not, then you’ll need to go for the 90mm tamron first. Otherwise, if the 75-300mm is enough macro (remember, you’ll have to stand further back, but you’ll still get magnified shots, thus giving you more “working distance”), then you can skip the 90mm and spend the money on the 28-70mm f/2.8 lens.

Again, while a couple of these lenses (the 75-300mm and Sigma 28-70mm) aren’t the top of the line, they will work for what you’re asking for and I recommend them so you don’t go bankrupt.
