Black Case Sony

Black Case Sony
My dog has broken the black plastic on the outside of my power cable from the laptop, is it dangerous?

He has done a couple of really small openings in the black plastic on the wire, all in the same place, but on both sides. I can see the silver through it, but no other colors. I've disconnected from the laptop and the network, as I suppose I do not use. However, it is the bit attached to the large square (sorry, I do not know how calls), does it have a load, so I do something special with the cable? Also, is there any way to repair it, as duct tape, or should I go shopping another cable this afternoon? I have a Sony Vaio in the event that is important. (And before someone says, "Do not let your dog chew the wire," usually leaves the cable alone, I left for a couple of seconds and when I was chewing something next to the wire, so I guess I missed! I learned my lesson and I will not leave it the vicinity of the laptop on its own anymore!)

I have a house rabbit does the same thing given the chance! In fact I now need a phone cable again. Get a bit of electrical tape, and wrapped around while you're away. If the wire inside isn't damaged, should be fine.
