Lens Canon
What Canon lens is best for portraits or macro?

I have around 100-200 dollars to spend on a new goal for my birthday. I have a Canon New Rebel Xsi

I agree with Photon – the 50mm F1.8 is a good lens, portrait cheap. It runs in the area of $ 100. You may be able to pick up an extension tube for $ 100, or to work with the 50mm. Canon tend to run more than $ 130, sometimes the Kenko for Canon can be found for less (make sure you get one with electronics – Extension tubes make it really cheap to shoot in manual mode). Extension tubes allow you to do a certain level oc macro photography. Also – if you go used with an EF-S (kit lens as the XSi) you need to ensure that the extension tube works with EF-S. The Canon series II extension tubes work with EF-S, the series does not.
