Macro Nikon Slr

Macro Nikon Slr
I want to upgrade my Nikon D50 kit lens – the best choice?

The new Nikon 135mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF 18-AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor lens for Digital Cameras Nikon Slr looks pretty good. I like the zoom range, but the specifications do not indicate whether there is a macro setting for close-ups of spiders, flowers, hearts lawyers. What is a "virtual reality" lens?

I'm from 18-200 VR users happy. Man, this is a wonderful lens and I recommend it as an upgrade worthwhile. Well, there is some edge distortion on the extreme focal lengths, but it is very good for the money. If I'm going to be extremely critical, I use a Nikon 17-55, but this is a good step up from the kit lens. I also use the 60 mm macro mentioned in another answer and just could not ask for a better lens. Well, the 105 VR macro could be nicer, but this is an incredible piece of glass. I took a few very crisp close-ups with 18-200 VR, although not supposed to have macro capabilities. Here is a dragonfly taken from about 3 feet apart in the (probably) 200 mm using VR mode. ("VR" stands for "Vibration Reduction", incidentally.) It is a pity that sits on a clothesline instead of a bush, but I think you will agree that it is an accurate picture box – almost macro.
