Petal Len Hood

Petal Len Hood
I'm shopping around for a hood for a Canon 50 mm 1.8 lens.?

What are the differences between a petal hood and some of the hoods Folding rubber? Is it better or worse and there is a noticeable difference?

A petal hood in the form of vignettes is preventable, especially in corners of the image in the range of wide angle. Umbrellas used to see the rectangular shape with the same purpose, but have given way to the bell-shaped petal. Not really know why, unless because the petal hood stows as well flipping around the target. On a 50mm lens, a bell round normal lens is probably fine. Look for a 20-25 mm deep and will have no problem with bullets.
