Is the Canon Powershot S5 IS getting dates? When will the next generation of Canon PowerShot hit the market?

I am thinking of buying a Canon PowerShot S5 IS, but have some concerns. Mainly I'm worried about buying the camera and then have the next generation PowerShot be released shortly afterwards. Should I go ahead with my purchase or wait for the next generation of Canon to hit the market? Any idea when it might be?

I bought my S1 IS in December 2004 and so far has done very well. I believe that fully depend on what you are expecting from your camera. I personally I chose my PowerShot due to the optical zoom capability GREAT compared with the Digital Zoom. The S5 IS now has high mega-pixel capabilities added to that too. The other nice thing about it is that has some capabilities that can be found in Digital Slr, such as being able to change the exposure times, diaphragms, and measurement. Even my S1 IS has those capabilities. This is useful if you want a point and shoot, but still want to be able to manipulate the exposure if the situation warrants. Here are some specifications for the S5 IS: # ModelTechSpecsAct http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=144&modelid=15207 And for the Canon of the poster above … lost a large amount of digital zoom on that one. Two other advanced high-end Digital Cameras that are displayed by Canon. One of them is PowerShot TX1: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=144&modelid=14903 # Y ModelDetailAct the other is the PowerShot XS100: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer / controller? act = ModelInfoAct & fcategoryid = 144 & model = 15 672 # ModelTechSpecsAct I hope this helps you choose!
