Any man or natural device, system or subsystem can be defined as a means by which the movement, flow or transmission any form of living, materials, mechanical components, any form of energy, money and information is enabled or controlled in directions desirable or is prevented in undesirable directions.

In any modern machine, when is running perfectly, gives immense satisfaction to the user and the user assumes that the machine will work as intended for all through their working lives without any problem.

However, all such machines as complicated as any modern turbine power house at some point the start, giving him problems. These are of two types: –

1) Problems due to wear and tear with aging:

These are common problems that arise due to worn parts and can be solved by replacing / repair and inspection of the machine as recommended by the manufacturer.

This can refer to any good manual prepared by the manufacturer.

2) critical issues:

Although relatively uncommon, such problems are those in which a machine can not perform any useful purpose unless this problem is rectified. And if it is an attempt to manage the machine with a critical problem, there is tremendous risk to the machine, because no one try to run a machine with a critical problem. Frequent recurrence of the problem also can be termed as critical issues.

These problems are seen when all other conventional methods solution of problems mentioned in the manuals have not produced any result.

Each mechanical repair and fix some problems or other in their activities everyday. For centuries, mankind has always found solutions to problems in one way or another. You can ask me what, if so, then what is so great about the "Theory of Problem Solving."

For this question, please let me say that the reason every time any agency has found no problem, he or she has inadvertently applied the same theory is described in the following pages, although relatively small problems, can not have focused so well on logic to solve problems, I tried to do in some depth.

Now before we proceed, we define from the outset what is meant by problems, puzzles and the problem. These are relevant in the following pages of this theory.


One problem is a problem in which no idea is available to apparent reason and the solution of the problem.


A puzzle is a problem in which some vague guidelines are available for the solution and you have to do something beaten and trial method to find their solution.

The peculiar nature of these observations may be different for different areas of activities viz. O & M plant, civil, electrical, C & I, IT and telecommunications, doctors, cooks, etc, but the basic philosophy for any root cause analysis is the same as explained below.


a) Sound: Intensity, model or type, frequency, relation between sound and rpm occurring rotation machine and any other conditions that occur simultaneously with the sound.

b) Vibrations: – Its nature, pattern cyclical variation in magnitude, direction changes, the relationship with the RPM of the machine, etc.

c) Visual observations: – Any sign or indication anywhere that may indicate the former presence of high temperature, water, steam, oil or any chemical leakage, deformity physical, gently rubbing and with or dents caused by friction. Deformity in isolation or support system or coating material, normal wear and tear or overuse and tear of a particular component, horizontal output (marked by a spirit level) or vertical (plumb verified) component regarding its intended orientation; concentricity deviation destination (which may result in a mounting system or during dismantling), the slack somewhere, due to a defect in supporting systems, etc.

7. CLOSED V / S open systems:

The type of thinking is good for closed systems in which we can not visualize what is happening within the system as a turbine, pump or any machine closed. However, in the case of open systems as a boiler of a power plant or a boat or any other system largest we can see and witness some of the things that happen in the interior slightly different approach is required as under:

Apart from the safety of components and parts of a machine being assembled troubleful to decide on Run / repair / replace, the biggest problem for the operator or user agency, who runs the machine is exactly why critical problem had occurred in the first place, so that the same sort of problems should not be repeated again in the other identical or similar machines in the future.

7. The theory of solving problems directly take the analyst's mind at the root cause of the problem as a guided missile reaches its destination by itself.
